About The Artist

Zharko Basheski (born on August 11, 1957, in Prilep) is a prominent Macedonian sculptor and a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje. After earning his BFA and MFA degrees from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje, Basheski dedicated his work to the hyperrealism movement, with a distinct focus on the human body.

His sculptural approach is highly innovative, combining philosophical concepts with exceptional technical precision and the use of new materials such as silicone and polyester resin. Some of his most recognized pieces are monumental public sculptures, including the equestrian monuments of Goce Delchev and Dame Gruev in Macedonia Square, Skopje, and the monument to Alexander the Great in Prilep. Basheski is a regular participant in international exhibitions, notably showcasing his work at the Venice Biennale in 2011, establishing him as a key figure in contemporary Macedonian sculpture.
