About The Artist
Elena Chemerka is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher who explores memory and the role of the body’s lived experience in reconstructing fragmented history. She is one of the most active actors in the contemporary art scene of North Macedonia from the younger generation.
Elena holds an MA in Fine Art from the Master Institute for Visual Cultures, AKV St Joost School of Art and Design, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. Through painting, moving images, installation, and collaborations, she is interested in personal and collective transformative capacity. Her work has been exhibited internationally. She is the recipient of the Prince Claus Seed Award (2021, the Netherlands) and the DENES Award for young visual artist (2021, North Macedonia).
